Common Signs that You Need Cooling System Repair
Right after you fire up your vehicle, its engine temperature becomes hotter and hotter. To prevent the heat from causing damage to your engine, it's crucial that your cooling system is functioning properly. If your cooling system fails and your engine overheats, then there could be major problems, such as a cracked block. At Brookside Auto Rx, our local mechanics are experts at identifying and fixing cooling system issues. Come and see us if you notice any of the following signs that it's time for cooling system repair.
Symptoms of Cooling System Trouble
If your dashboard's temperature gauge enters the red zone, then you've got a sign of an issue with your cooling system. Because you don't want to risk overheating causing damage, it'll be best to pull over as soon as you safely can. Then you can call up the shop, explain any symptoms, and then get advice on whether it seems like your car can be safely driven any further.
Another red flag is that there's steam emerging from beneath your hood. This could be occurring because your coolant has hit its boiling point. In scenarios where you have to add coolant, it's very important that your engine sufficiently cools down before you open the cap. If you open the cap to add coolant while your engine is still hot, then there's a chance that scorching hot cluid will spray up at you.
When a car overheats, it's often due to cooling system leaks. If your coolant level has become really low, then there may be a leak present. Cooling system leaks should always be addressed ASAP. When coolant leaks internally, you may notice white exhaust smoke, which is a sign of a blown head gasket. You'll also want to keep an eye out for external coolant leaks. Coolant may be leaking externally if you see bright green fluid on the ground where your vehicle has been parked. But your coolant could be a different color like pink, orange, or yellow.
